Hermes Embraces Colour Zellige Tiles
Milan Design week provides a stage for design houses and creatives to showcase their latest collections and pieces. Year on year, the awe-inspiring event is bursting at the seams with talent, each year bigger than the last.
At the 2018 Milan Design week, Hermès continues to build on its reputation as one of the event’s standouts. Presenting their new home collection within a series of seven different architectural structures covered entirely with shades of Zellige™ Cotto tiles, Hermès has created an impressive artistic space.
Conceived under the artistic directorship of Charlotte Maxaux Perelman and Alexis Fabry, each glossy monochromatic house provided visitors with an immersive experience as they explored the Hermès home collection.
It took three weeks to create the architectural pavilions, each varying in scale and featuring geometric blocks and chunky shelves of which furniture, objects, fabrics and wallpaper of the collection was displayed. In the process, Hermès used 150,000 handmade Zellige™ Cotto tiles in hues of turquoise, sea green, amber, Sienna and more.
The effect of using the Moroccan handmade and glazed Cotto tiles was a textural space which played with colour, light and form. By using different shades, each pavilion evoked a distinct mood and sense of drama that captivated the visitors.
Executed with the precision and exuding handcrafted finesse, Hermès have artfully showcased not only their beautiful home collection but the uncompromised quality and tactile nature of the Zellige™ Cotto tiles.
