Surplus materials are a challenge in our industry. Offcuts, discontinued lines, production samples, leftovers. The default response is to get rid of them, through discounting, recycling or crushing. This exhibition challenges this and asks: what if we made something with them that people love?

‘Waste to Wonder’ commissions three designers to transform surplus materials into desirable objects and furniture. Paris-based studio MVE, Australian industrial designer Tom Fereday, and furniture designer Matt Lorrain each approach a material on their own terms, working with what already exists, adapting to its inherent qualities, and extending its life through design. The resulting pieces sit at the intersection of architecture and furniture – demonstrating that circular design can be beautiful, functional and scalable.

MVE Collection

A Paris-based design studio renowned for transforming construction site waste into high-end, sustainable furniture. MVE reimagines Eco Outdoor’s stone bricks to design three tables that celebrate the beauty, high performance and sustainability of natural stone.

Tom Fereday

Tom is an Australian industrial designer known for his refined and honest approach to materials. Using Eco Outdoor’s Mano glass blocks, Tom presents a limited-edition series of tables that balance functionality with sculptural simplicity. Made from up to fifty per cent recycled glass, each block is cast by hand, resulting in raw, organically textured surfaces that are uniquely individual.

Matt Lorrain

Matt is an Australian furniture designer. He uses Eco Outdoor’s glazed lava tiles to create bold, almost brutalist furniture pieces. Each work celebrates the durability and richly textured character of lava stone, defined by trapped air bubbles, shimmering metallic fragments and dark, mineral-speckled surfaces.
