Set against the rugged coastline, Anglesea House – known as “Jackson” to the family of our co-founder Ross Eckersley – transcends the notion of a simple beach retreat. A study in restraint, the home uses timber and a trio of natural stone to masterfully balance landscape, materiality and purpose. The result is a sanctuary suited to both lively family gatherings and moments of calm solitude.

The brief called for a flexible, light-filled home that could welcome a growing extended family, while maintaining a strong emphasis on sustainability and a clear intention to create a future-focused home. Canyonfell Freeform walling, Beauford sandstone flooring and Luca crazy paving were selected not only for their beauty, but for their longevity, thermal efficiency and ability to age gracefully.

Lining interior and exterior walls, Canyonfell walling brings warmth and depth, with its blend of cream and grey hues enriched by darker brown accents. The variation and texture of the stone complement the home’s timber detailing while creating a calm and cohesive palette.

"We chose Beauford sandstone for its natural connection to the landscape and its excellent thermal performance, helping the home stay comfortable year-round.”  - Eckersley Architecture

Beauford sandstone defines the home’s coastal character. Chosen for its thermal performance it runs continuously across the floors inside and out. Its soft creamy-grey tones and distressed texture present a subtle patina that connects daily life to the texture of the land.

Made from offcuts of larger stone pieces, Luca crazy paving creates a subtle transition between landscape and architecture. This dense, hard-wearing gneiss introduces an additional layer of texture and depth, seamlessly uniting the soft grey and brown tones found in both Beauford and Canyonfell.

Defined by legacy, Anglesea House is designed to be passed down through generations. Through the considered use of stone, the architecture feels both grounded and elevated, offering a timeless connection between people, place and landscape.
