It is these characteristics that ensure this space is a unique one; one that perhaps, pool aside, would not be out of place indoors. This integration of disciplines ensures that the client’s lifestyle has not been inhibited by the tight confines of this inner-city courtyard. The narrow space provided a challenge to Out From The Blue in that the client’s brief was to essentially extend the living area at the rear of the house whilst incorporating a family pool that did not compromise on style, form or function.
The design can be broken down into four areas over two levels; the BBQ area at the rear of the house, the pool, the pool lounge and at the very rear of the property a service area and bathroom. While many different elements, materials and functions are incorporated into the space, the design ensures that a sense of openness has not been compromised in any way. Through the merging of landscape, architecture and interior design, the specific functional requirements of the client’s brief have been met in a space that is uniquely styled and aesthetically striking.
