This project is the perfect combination of a country style garden with the grand scale grounds to match. The main brief was to design a garden to nestle into an existing vineyard. To achieve this a second vineyard was created to provide a sense of balance to the property, which then allowed for the swimming pool and main terrace of the home to become the centre point of the garden.
To disguise the pool as a pond the internal surfaces were lined with bluestone to give the appearance of deep water reflecting the sky and surrounding trees while the pool’s infinity edge gives the appearance of water spilling over directly into the lines of vines. The surrounding Capri travertine complements the colour tone and style of the design and the placement of two ornamental Pears trees provide shade for the pool and outdoor entertaining area. Alpine dry stone walling has been used both outside and in, with a grand scale fireplace and chimney stack, as well as small external detailing such as step risers and low retaining walls.
The balance of the garden is over scaled with large areas of lawn and gravel sitting beside mass plantings of lavender, roses and rosemary. Jericho limestone pavers have been used as steppers bringing the entrance of the home right out into the front garden lawn. The entire emphasis of the garden has been centred around recreation and productivity, just as you would find in the south of France.
