Considering a trip down to Australia any time soon? Perhaps you need to venture far down south to the unique Satellite Island in Tasmania where the natural beauty is immense and time stops.

There’s no phone reception or wi-fi.  There are no shops, roads or traffic.  If you’re after peace and quite, with ample time to slow down and switch off, you’ve found the right place.

Owner Kate says, “The island gives you a sense of having the world to yourself,” says owner Kate. “The quiet here is astonishing and reason alone to come. There’s just something about it. It has a way of really slowing life down.”

Kate and Will Alstergren, a couple from Melbourne, own the private island which has been in the family since the 1960’s.  The island has never previously been open to the public until Kate and Will decided to take on the project as a business.

After renovating with the help from stylist Tess Newman-Morris and cleaning up the island, the island opened in 2013 for guests to enjoy.

Book to stay on Satellite Island, and be exclusively yours for the duration of your visit.  You’ll have the time and privacy to breathe in the island’s vast natural beauty and soak up the incredible views.  Everywhere you look there is beauty from the pristine waters and empty beaches, to the thick native bush and sheer cliff faces.

From the outset, the accommodation looks modest.  Take a closer look and it has all the stylish comforts and personal you could expect from an island escape.  On the highest point of the island, the three-bedroom Summer House sleeps the most people and has impressive views.

To wake up on the waters edge, guests can sleep in the intimate two-bedroom Boathouse positioned on a small jetty.  Glampers are also catered for with the island’s luxury queen-size bell tent.

“In the morning wake to the sound of sea birds, and take breakfast out on the deck before heading off on one of the island’s stunning walking tracks.”

While there is no wi-fi, the island has plenty to do.  Simply curl up with a good book, sit and soak up the incredible scenery, or explore the island landscape.

Play on the water in kayaks, try out fishing, or forage for wild oysters.  Get your hands dirty picking fresh produce from the organic vegetable patch, or cook a feast on a DIY fire on the pebbled beach.  Whatever you fancy, the island is there for you to enjoy at your leisure.
